Did You Know the Fine Details of Vegetable Oil Production?!
One of the first and most important stages of oil production begins with assessing the quality of the raw material. When seeds are received for processing, their moisture level, cleanliness, and the presence of damaged parts or mold contamination are checked. Proper storage of the raw material also directly affects the quality of the final product.
According to FAO data, drying and storing oilseeds under appropriate conditions helps prevent mold growth, spoilage processes, and deterioration in product quality.
The main production stages then begin. Oilseeds are cleaned, dehulled when necessary, crushed, and heat-treated. These processes help release the oil from the seed cells more efficiently.
The oil can then be extracted mechanically by pressing it in special presses. In large-scale production, additional extraction methods may also be used to increase oil yield.
In sunflower oil production, for example, various refining stages are used after initial processing. According to FAO data, these may include degumming, neutralization, drying, bleaching, deodorization, and the removal of wax-like substances.
In some cases, the oil is cooled so that wax-like compounds can be removed, resulting in a clearer final product.
