An Unusual Vacation Experience in Peru

An Unusual Vacation Experience in Peru

Peru offers tourists an unusual vacation experience. Skylodge Adventure Suites features glass-walled capsules suspended 365 meters above the Sacred Valley of the Incas. To spend a night in one of these extraordinary rooms, travelers must climb a steep cliff for approximately two hours before descending via six ziplines the following morning.

The hotel is located near the village of Pachar, approximately a 90-minute drive from Cusco. The capsules are attached directly to the rock face and can only be accessed using specially installed metal ladders, ledges, and rope-assisted passages. In some sections, visitors must cross exposed areas above the cliffs while wearing safety equipment.

According to BBC journalist Gina Truman, who decided to spend a night at the hotel, reaching the capsules was challenging even for an experienced traveler. At an altitude of more than 3,200 meters above sea level, the thinner air made breathing difficult, while the steep cliffs and deep valley below intensified the sensation of height.

After nearly two hours of climbing, guests reach a capsule designated for dining. There, they are served dinner featuring several traditional Peruvian dishes. Guides then accompany the visitors to their individual sleeping capsules.

Inside the capsules are beds and panoramic windows offering views of the starry night sky. The bathroom area features an environmentally friendly toilet separated from the rest of the capsule by a thick curtain. As temperatures drop rapidly at night, guests are provided with warm blankets.

In the morning, visitors are served breakfast before beginning their descent along six ziplines, each ranging from 150 to 700 meters in length. The return journey takes less than an hour.

A one-night stay at Skylodge Adventure Suites costs 1,640 Peruvian soles, approximately $480 per person. The price includes transportation from Cusco, guide services, rock climbing, and the zipline descent.

For travelers who prefer a more comfortable experience, the company also offers another type of capsule located closer to the foot of the mountain. These accommodations can be reached on foot and feature showers, conventional toilets, and outdoor hot tubs.
