Mercedes-Benz Develops System to Blow Snow Off Cars
German automotive brand Mercedes-Benz has proposed a solution to one of the common challenges drivers face during winter. The company has developed a new technology designed to remove snow from a vehicle's roof and exterior frames using a special pneumatic system. The corresponding patent application has been officially published by the German Patent Office.
According to the engineers' proposed design, special pneumatic nozzles would be installed around the vehicle's roof and window frames. The published diagram shows a total of four such devices, with two on each side near the front and rear doors. The nozzles could be designed as either fixed or retractable components.
Operating the system would be simple. The driver would only need to press a dedicated button, activating a powerful stream of air directed toward the roof and the edges of the door openings. The main purpose of the technology is to prevent accumulated snow from falling into the vehicle's interior when the doors are opened.
Mercedes-Benz has not yet provided a detailed explanation of the patent. It also remains unclear whether the new air-blowing system will eventually be introduced in the company's mass-produced vehicles.
