Are Tea Bags Harmful?!
Turkish scientists have found that some plastic tea bags may release thousands of microplastic particles when brewed. Researchers from Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University tested four types of tea in plastic bags and 14 types of loose-leaf tea at a temperature of 95°C. A single plastic tea bag released between 555 and 2,498 polyamide fibers, while bisphenol A and various plasticizers were also detected. The figure was significantly lower in regular loose-leaf tea, with approximately 0.3–2.4 polymer particles found per serving.
The possible health effects of regular exposure to microplastics are still being studied. Scientists note that such particles may accumulate in tissues and could potentially be associated with hormonal disruption, cardiovascular problems and inflammatory processes.
