One of the leading biotechnology startups in the United States has administered a virus-based treatment developed with the help of specialized artificial intelligence to a critically ill patient. The experiment could become an important step in fighting complex infections that do not respond to conventional medicines.

The new treatment is reportedly designed to target resistant microbes that are difficult to treat and no longer respond to antibiotics. Bacteriophages are naturally occurring viruses capable of selectively destroying certain bacteria.

The experiment was carried out under a special “compassionate use” program intended for cases in which standard treatments have failed. Specialists are keeping the patient’s identity and exact diagnosis confidential.

At the core of the treatment is an intelligent software system called “SynthoPhage”, developed by young researchers. The algorithm reportedly demonstrated very high effectiveness in initial laboratory tests.

The digital system analyzed the genotype of harmful microbes and identified two variants expected to be the most effective against them.

The algorithm is capable of targeting not only Escherichia coli but also complex microorganisms that can pose a threat to human health, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

These bacteria can cause serious complications, particularly in wounds, burn injuries and lung diseases.
