New Version of “iPhone Duo” Begins Testing Face ID Technology

In the new smartphone, the facial recognition hardware — an infrared sensor and projector — will be miniaturized and placed directly beneath the display.

In the future version, the button-based fingerprint scanner used in the first-generation model could be replaced by an advanced Face ID system, while the useful “Action Button” may also be added.

The anticipated new device is expected to be unveiled in the fall of 2027. For now, work continues to meet demand for the first-generation models.
