Chinese Scientists Perform Robot-Assisted Surgery for the First Time

For the first time in China, a heart transplant operation was successfully performed with the assistance of a robotic surgical system.

This important medical achievement was recorded at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University.

To treat the 67-year-old patient, surgeons made an incision of only 8 centimeters between the ribs instead of the traditional large incision of around 20 centimeters.

This eliminated the need to cut through the breastbone and significantly reduced the risks of major blood loss and infection.

Experts note that this technology could create major opportunities for treating patients in critical condition.
