Toyota Teaches Future Robots the Movements of Skilled Workers

Toyota plans to introduce nearly 400,000 humanoid ELEY (Embodied Learning Robot for Enhanced Yield) robots that will work alongside people at its facilities. The initiative will become part of the company’s global manufacturing modernization efforts.

The robot weighs around 50 kilograms and receives power from a battery or an electrical system. Instead of legs, it uses a wheeled platform. ELEY is equipped with two arms, each featuring two “fingers.” The robot’s dimensions and joint placement were designed based on the average body structure of an adult Japanese male.

In the future, skills learned by ELEY at one factory could be transferred to other Toyota robots around the world. The company believes that trained robots could also help new employees learn manufacturing processes.
