New Dinosaur Species That Lived 125 Million Years Ago Discovered

Scientists in England have identified a new species of herbivorous dinosaur that lived around 125 million years ago. The remains of the ancient animal, discovered in 2001 at a quarry in Surrey and now kept at London’s Natural History Museum, have finally been fully studied.

The specimen measured about 5 meters in length and weighed around 2 tonnes. Researchers believe it was still a young individual and that its size could have almost doubled when fully grown. The dinosaur lived in swampy environments, and its unusual name was chosen in reference to its natural habitat as well as in honor of quarry worker Will Proudlove, who helped with the discovery.

The finding suggests that the diversity of iguanodont dinosaurs in the past may have been considerably greater than previously believed.
