Military Service Will Become Compulsory for All Men

Starting in 2032, Lithuania’s State Defence Council has decided to introduce mass compulsory military conscription for male citizens. Young men aged between 18 and 22 will be called up for military service. Women, as before, will be able to join the military on a voluntary basis.

Compulsory military service in Lithuania was abolished in 2008 and reinstated in 2015. The standard period of initial military service is nine months, while for some citizens with military qualifications, the term is three months.
