83-Year-Old Carol Fair Ends Pilot Career After 63 Years in Aviation
His final flight took place on October 26 on American Airlines Flight 733 from London to Charlotte, North Carolina, United States. Carol was welcomed at the airport by relatives, friends and colleagues, while the airline organized a special farewell ceremony for him. Carol Fair began his aviation career in 1963. After American Airlines declined to hire him, he joined Piedmont Airlines, which later became part of American Airlines following a merger.
Over the course of his decades-long career, Carol Fair worked with various types of aircraft. He considers one of the most memorable moments of his career to be Piedmont Airlines’ first flight from Charlotte to London in 1987. At that time, Carol moved from the smaller DC-3 aircraft to the Boeing 767. Many years later, he flew the same route once again, but this time for the last time.
In this way, he brought to a close the profession to which he had devoted most of his life. Fair explained his decision to retire at the age of 83 by saying that he had achieved everything he had dreamed of.
