Flying Electric Vehicles to Be Used for Police Service in the US
Florida Polytechnic University in the United States plans to use a flying electric vehicle called “Jetson ONE” on its campus to improve security and respond more quickly to emergencies.
The initiative will make it possible to test the effectiveness of personal air vehicles in police operations.
Powered by electricity, the “Jetson ONE” is capable of vertical takeoff and landing. California-based company “Jetson” plans to fulfil the university’s order within a short period despite a three-year waiting list caused by strong demand for the product.
Company head Stefan Dyen explained this by pointing to the university’s engineering focus and the importance of the project for public safety. According to him, the manufacturer wants its technology to serve not only entertainment purposes but also everyday practical needs.
The “Jetson ONE” is equipped with eight electric motors, can reach speeds of up to 100 kilometres per hour and can remain airborne for around 20 minutes.
The single-seat aircraft weighs about 115 kilograms including its batteries.
It is also equipped with an automatic landing system in the event of a malfunction and a parachute, providing a high level of safety.
