For Mothers of Toddlers Who Are Just Starting to Walk!
What are the three main mistakes parents make when babies are taking their first steps?
The first and most common mistake is using a baby walker. According to studies, walkers do not help babies learn to walk faster. On the contrary, they may delay a child’s natural development.
The second mistake is putting children in stiff and heavy shoes. Studies suggest that babies may maintain their balance better during their first steps when barefoot or wearing soft socks and shoes.
When the nerve endings around a baby’s feet come into direct contact with the ground, the brain receives signals about the surface, helping the child learn to maintain balance.
The third mistake is panicking, immediately picking the child up and making a fuss every time they fall.
If parents react to every fall with a frightened and anxious voice, saying, “Oh, did you hurt yourself?!”, the child may develop fear and uncertainty and begin to associate walking with danger.
