Singapore Offers Cash Rewards for Reading at Least 15 Minutes a Day

The Singapore government has developed an unusual way to reduce dependence on social media. Citizens who read for at least 15 minutes a day can now receive a cash reward.

The government program, launched in September, aims to encourage regular reading habits among the population.

To qualify for the reward, a person needs to spend at least 15 minutes reading each day. Each reading session earns 20 digital or virtual coins.

Once 1,000 coins have been accumulated, they can be exchanged for 1 Singapore dollar. Only one reading session per day counts toward the total.

The initiative is part of the Singapore government’s broader efforts to reduce the negative impact of social media, particularly on young people.

The country is also discussing the introduction of daily time limits for social media use.
