Engine Capable of Operating Underwater Developed
Renault and Geely have developed an engine capable of operating underwater. It continues to function even when fully submerged.
According to the company, the engine can operate at depths of up to 1.1 meters, and its thermal efficiency reaches 48.4%.
The engine’s key feature is its compliance with the IPX8 water-resistance standard. Developers sealed the engine and also adapted the vehicle’s components and sensors to meet the requirements of the same standard.
The Horse B20 model is equipped with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine. Depending on the version, it produces between 190 and 252 horsepower and delivers 300 to 380 Nm of torque. When the B20 is submerged, its electronics automatically adjust the throttle response or limit engine output based on sensor readings. This allows the engine to continue operating even while crossing deep-water obstacles.
