President of Turkmenistan Receives European Union Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary

On September 9, the President of Turkmenistan received Luc Pierre Devigne, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the European Union to Turkmenistan. He presented his credentials to the Head of State.

As noted during the meeting, Turkmenistan attaches great importance to its relations with the European Union. The EU is one of the country’s important international partners, and in recent years these relations have been developing in a spirit of multifaceted cooperation based on mutual respect, trust and shared interests.

Turkmenistan places significant emphasis on further developing political dialogue with the European Union and intensifying exchanges of views on international and regional matters of mutual interest. Trade and economic cooperation is one of the key areas. In this regard, the Head of State noted the considerable opportunities to increase trade turnover, expand business ties with companies from European countries and implement new investment projects.

Turkmenistan also gives particular importance to cooperation in energy, transport and logistics, industry, agriculture, digital technologies and environmental protection.

The interlocutors noted the need to expand cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union in the transport and communications sector, emphasizing that the development of routes to European markets through the Caspian Sea and the potential of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor serve common interests. It was also noted that there are substantial opportunities to expand energy cooperation, including in the development of renewable energy sources and the transition to a green economy.

Cultural and humanitarian cooperation is also an important area. In this regard, it was emphasized that cooperation in education, science and culture helps strengthen mutual understanding.
