Two-Headed Turtle Discovered

A two-headed hatchling diamondback terrapin was discovered in a protected area in Wellfleet on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA. The rare turtle, weighing just 5.2 grams, is currently under the care of specialists at the Cape Wildlife Center.

The unusual hatchling was found in a protected nest and transferred to experts through the Mass Audubon Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. Both of the turtle’s heads are fully developed. In scientific terminology, this rare developmental abnormality is known as “bicephaly.”
