Kenya will host the World Athletics Championships for the first time in history
Kenya will become the first African country to host the World Athletics Championships for senior athletes.
This historic international competition will take place in 2029. The events are planned to be held at the 48,000-seat Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.
Besides Nairobi, London and Rome also competed for the right to host the championship, but they lost to Kenya.
Meanwhile, the right to host the 2031 World Championships was awarded to Munich, Germany.
It is worth noting that Kenya had previously bid to host the 2025 championship, but the hosting rights were awarded to Tokyo due to infrastructure considerations.
Currently, Kenya, together with Tanzania and Uganda, is renovating sports facilities ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations football tournament. As part of these preparations, large-scale construction and renovation works are also being carried out at Kasarani Stadium.
