Toyota Vehicles Could Soon Take Photos
Toyota has patented a system that allows drivers to photograph objects that catch their attention without taking their focus off the road.
In-vehicle cameras that monitor the driver’s attention determine the position of the driver’s head and the direction of their gaze. The system then compares this vector with the direction of an external camera and identifies which object on the road or roadside attracted the driver’s attention.
A photo can be taken using a voice command or by pressing a button. The image is then sent to a connected mobile device, such as a smartphone.
Toyota presents the technology as a way to reduce driver distraction and eliminate the need to use separate devices while driving.
