Tips for Properly Storing Cheese in the Refrigerator
Cheese is a very sensitive and “delicate” product. It does not tolerate extremely high or low temperatures well and can also spoil quickly if exposed to excessive dryness or moisture.
To preserve its original taste and beneficial qualities, certain storage rules should be followed in the refrigerator.
It is best to keep cheese in the vegetable drawer. Storing it in the refrigerator door is not recommended because the temperature there changes frequently whenever the door is opened.
After the original packaging has been opened, the cheese should be wrapped in parchment paper or foil. It is better to avoid plastic or cling film. It can then be placed in a closed container that still allows a small amount of airflow.
A whole piece of cheese keeps longer. Therefore, it is best not to slice it in advance and to cut it only when serving.
Cheese quickly absorbs surrounding odors. For this reason, it should be stored away from onions, garlic, and smoked foods.
