How Does Stress Affect Facial Skin?
Emotional stress can affect not only the nervous system but also a person’s appearance, especially the condition of facial skin, both in the short and long term.
Stress may contribute to reduced moisture levels in the epidermis, causing the skin to become drier and weakening its natural protective barrier. In such cases, skincare products enriched with lipids and beneficial natural oils are often recommended.
Higher cortisol levels may also make the small blood vessels in the face more sensitive. In these situations, soothing skincare products that support the skin and blood vessel walls may be helpful.
Changes in circulation during periods of stress can cause the skin to lose its natural glow and appear pale. Slower lymphatic drainage may also lead to fluid retention in tissues, resulting in facial puffiness and dark circles around the eyes.
Persistent tension in facial muscles can also affect skin elasticity and may contribute to the appearance of premature signs of aging.
