Hyundai Vehicles Could Be Used to Search for People

Korean automaker Hyundai has announced that it has received a patent for a new intelligent system designed to identify people based on their clothing and body characteristics. Specialized neural networks and algorithms analyze video streams in real time, taking into account a person’s height, body structure, facial features and clothing.

The system can conduct searches not only using conventional images but also based on verbal descriptions. The company says the technology could eventually be used not only in passenger vehicles but also in robotic systems produced by Boston Dynamics.

Experts say the system could be useful for tracking criminals and improving public safety. At the same time, they warn that it may raise privacy concerns and could potentially contribute to expanded mass surveillance.
