Dinosaur remains buried underground for about 115 million years discovered

Chinese geologists accidentally discovered fossilized remains of a dinosaur that lived approximately 115 million years ago. The researchers were originally searching for copper deposits.

The remains were found inside a drill core extracted from a depth of 473 meters near the Guijihu area in the Ingen-Ejin Basin.

The fossil mainly consists of vertebrae from the base of the tail and several associated bones. Researchers identified part of the area where the tail connected to the pelvis, the main sections of four caudal vertebrae, six neural arches, and several transverse bone processes.

Remains of various dinosaur species had previously been discovered in the eastern and central parts of the Bayan-Gobi geological formation. The new finding further expands the known geographic range of dinosaurs that inhabited the region during the Early Cretaceous period.
