The regional stages of the “Gülüň owadan” competition were held

The regional stages of the “Gülüň owadan” competition, jointly announced by the Central Council of the Women’s Union of Turkmenistan, the National Centre of Trade Unions of Turkmenistan, and the Secretariat of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO, were held.

In accordance with the competition requirements, the participating women competed in producing new patterned Turkmen national felt carpets depicting the beautiful nature of the present era. They demonstrated various stages of the process, including selecting, sorting, dyeing and combing wool, weaving the reed mat used for felting, decorating the felt with patterns and pressing it, while also artistically praising these traditions.

The participants also spoke about the distinctive designs of Turkmen felt carpets, historical information and interesting legends related to felt products, and skilfully performed ghazals and traditional poetic exchanges.

Commemorative gifts were presented to the winners in a ceremonial setting. The winning women earned the right to participate in the national stage of the competition.
