Is a seaside holiday dangerous for us?

Swimming in the sea during a holiday can pose several risks to eye health.

One of the main causes is the improper use of contact lenses. According to doctors, swimming while wearing contact lenses can cause swelling and inflammation of the cornea.

Contact lenses should not come into contact with water, including seawater or lake water. Eye infections caused by such exposure can be difficult to treat and may lead to blindness or impaired vision.

Swimming with contact lenses in open bodies of water is particularly dangerous.

Doctors recommend using disposable contact lenses together with tight-fitting swimming goggles when swimming in the sea, or wearing special protective goggles.
