The first political consultations between Turkmenistan and New Zealand were held

On July 28, the first political consultations were held via videoconference between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand at the level of department heads.

During the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities to develop political and diplomatic dialogue between the two states. The similarity of their positions on promoting global peace and stability was noted.

The parties emphasized their commitment to continuing the practice of mutual support for initiatives within authoritative international organizations, primarily the United Nations.

The diplomats examined in detail the prospects for establishing cooperation in sustainable transport and energy, as well as environmental security.

In this context, gratitude was expressed to New Zealand for co-sponsoring the resolution initiated by Turkmenistan entitled “Reliable and Stable Transit of Energy and Its Role in Ensuring Sustainable Development and International Cooperation.”

The parties also highlighted opportunities for cooperation within the United Nations Decade of Sustainable Transport for 2026–2035 and considered potential joint projects.

Cultural and humanitarian cooperation was also included on the agenda of the consultations. The parties considered opportunities to establish cooperation between universities of the two countries, conduct joint research and organize online meetings between representatives of relevant institutions.

They also discussed developing cultural ties through online festivals, virtual exhibitions and Culture Days, as well as cooperation between museums and libraries and within UNESCO.

Following the consultations, the parties confirmed their intention to work jointly to advance political dialogue, multilateral diplomacy, trade and cultural relations.
