Did You Know Which Surnames Have Become Popular in England?!

According to the latest figures from the UK’s national statistics service, the list of the most common surnames among newborns in England and Wales has changed significantly over the past 30 years.

While traditional British surnames once dominated the rankings, surnames associated with other ethnic and cultural communities are now appearing more frequently.

More than 30 years ago, the top ten included traditional British surnames such as Smith, Jones, Williams, Taylor, Brown, Davies, Evans, Thomas, Johnson, and Wilson.

Today, alongside Smith, Jones, and Williams, surnames such as Khan, Ahmed, Ali, Hussain, Singh, Patel, and Kaur are also becoming increasingly common.

According to the “Daily Mail,” the frequency of the surnames Jones and Williams has fallen by around 43%. At the same time, Khan, Ahmed, and Ali have roughly doubled in frequency, while Singh and Kaur have increased by at least fivefold.

Rob Bates, a representative of a migration analysis center, said these changes are linked to the country’s ongoing demographic shifts.
