China’s Railways Set a New Record
China’s railways set a new record for the number of passengers carried in a single day. Trains served 25.2 million people over a 24-hour period.
The record was registered on the first day of the holiday break declared in honor of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, celebrated on October 1.
Passenger traffic was expected to reach 20.4 million the following day, with an additional 1,462 train services planned to meet growing demand.
The cities with the highest passenger flows included Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Xi’an, Zhengzhou, and Nanjing.
The busiest routes were Xi’an–Chengdu, Beijing–Shenyang, Beijing–Zhengzhou, and Beijing–Qingdao.
