Norway Plans to Ban AI-Powered Glasses in Public Places
Norwegian authorities are planning to ban the use of AI-powered “smart” glasses in public places such as parks, shopping malls, hospitals, schools, and universities. The restrictions will not apply to personal use or to filming in tourist areas.
All conditions of the proposed ban are being reviewed by a special group of experts. The move is linked to measures aimed at protecting privacy and personal security.
AI-powered glasses look almost identical to ordinary eyewear but are equipped with hidden cameras and microphones.
In 2025, EssilorLuxottica and Meta sold more than 7 million such devices.
