Shrek Is Returning to the Big Screen

In the summer of 2027, one of the major events in the world of cinema will take place — the famous green ogre and his loyal friends will return to the screen with a new story.

The history of this beloved and unusual universe began 25 years ago, in 2001. That was when audiences first met Shrek, his restless friend Donkey, and the beautiful Fiona.

The first film quickly gained worldwide popularity, earned nearly $500 million at the box office, and won the historic Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

The franchise’s success was later continued with three more main films and two separate spin-offs about Puss in Boots.

The most recent main installment, “Shrek Forever After,” was released in 2010.
