Electricity Supplies from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan to Nearly Double
The section of the high-voltage power transmission line along the Kerki–Kabul route, from the Dasht-e Alwan substation to the Arghandi substation in Kabul Province, is planned to be fully commissioned in June 2027.
This was announced by Murat Artykov, head of the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan (TAP) project, during a session of the OGT 2026 international oil and gas conference in Ashgabat.
According to the speech, construction work on the 500-kilovolt power transmission line, with a total length of 711 kilometers, between Sheberghan and Dasht-e Alwan is expected to be fully completed in the near future.
At the next stage, work will continue toward the Arghandi substation. As a result, Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, and surrounding areas will receive a stable electricity supply.
To date, more than 50 international agreements have been signed between partner countries and investors for implementation of the TAP project.
To ensure uninterrupted construction and installation work in Afghanistan, a special Cooperation Roadmap is expected to be signed soon between the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan and the relevant Afghan authority.
