Pope Leo XIV Successfully Undergoes Lung Surgery

Pope Leo XIV, head of the Roman Catholic Church, has successfully undergone surgery to remove a growth from his lung.

According to doctors, the 71-year-old pontiff is expected to need about a week for a full recovery.

Representatives of the Vatican press office said that additional information and updates on the Pope’s health would be released in the near future.

Leo XIV, whose birth name is Robert Francis Prevost, had previously said that changes in his lung had been detected at an early stage.

He was elected Pope in May 2025 following the death of Pope Francis.
