Is Face Unlock the Same on iPhone and Samsung? No, They Work Very Differently
The two systems work in fundamentally different ways.
Special sensors at the top of the iPhone project several thousand points onto your face and create a 3D model of it. The system also works effectively in the dark.
The chance of another person being able to unlock an iPhone using their face is approximately 1 in 1,000,000.
On Samsung smartphones, face recognition typically uses the standard front-facing camera to analyze the face in 2D. It does not rely on dedicated depth sensors.
For this reason, it is considered weaker in terms of security and, in theory, could be fooled using a high-quality photo or video. It may also have more difficulty working in dark conditions.
