Netflix Plans to Lay Off Around 1,000 Employees
Netflix, one of the world’s leading streaming platforms, is planning to reduce its workforce by around 6%, which would mean laying off approximately 1,000 employees. This would be the company’s largest round of job cuts since 2022.
Company executives Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos explained in a letter sent to employees on Wednesday that the move is intended to improve the allocation of financial and human resources.
The changes are expected to allow the platform to invest more in promising areas and maintain sustainable growth.
The layoffs are expected to mainly affect production and technology, legal services, and human resources departments.
Although Netflix continues to grow rapidly, achieving a major increase in user engagement has become more difficult. In the first half of 2026, subscribers watched more than 97 billion hours of content, just 2% more than during the same period last year.
According to official figures from December 2025, Netflix had a total workforce of around 16,000 employees.
The company is expected to release its financial results for the third quarter of this year in the coming days.
