Lionel Messi Officially Retires from the Argentina National Team

The 39-year-old Argentine star forward played his farewell match for the national team in a friendly against Benin at the “Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti” stadium in Buenos Aires.

Argentina defeated their opponents 3–0, with Messi scoring one goal and providing two assists.

Messi made his debut for Argentina in August 2005 in a friendly against Hungary, which Argentina won 2–1. In total, he made 208 appearances for the national team, scoring 126 goals and providing 70 assists.

With Argentina, Messi won the 2022 FIFA World Cup, two Copa América titles in 2021 and 2024, and the Finalissima in 2022.
