Movie Star Nicolas Cage Confirms He Is Joining the Hit Anthology Series
Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage has confirmed that he will appear in the new fifth season of HBO’s acclaimed anthology series “True Detective.” Entertainment Weekly reported the news, citing Cage’s meeting with fans at New York Comic Con.
Cage linked his decision to join the television project to his family life. He said he wanted to take a break from constant film shoots, spend more time with his loved ones, and maintain financial stability for his family.
The first reports suggesting that the Hollywood star could join the project appeared in the summer of 2025. According to industry sources, the mysterious events of the new season are expected to take place around Jamaica Bay in New York City.
Earlier in the year, Cage said he was interested in working with director Issa López, although at that time the contract had not yet been fully signed.
Cage also admitted that he had never watched the famous first season of the series starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.
Notably, McConaughey, who gained widespread acclaim for his role as Rust Cohle in the first season, also expressed support for Cage joining the project. McConaughey added that he would be willing to return to the series himself if the new script were as strong as the original season.
