Tokyo Rainfall Breaks a 140-Year Record

Rain has been falling continuously for 35 days in central Tokyo, the capital of Japan.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the previous record was 33 consecutive days, lasting from June 27 to July 29, 2019.

Weather observations for central Tokyo are conducted at a meteorological station located in Kitanomaru Park in Chiyoda Ward.

From the beginning of September to the start of this week, central Tokyo recorded 629 millimeters of rainfall. This is approximately three times the normal monthly amount.

The figure is also close to the record of 670.9 millimeters set in September 1958.
