Remains of a “Unicorn” Discovered in Siberia

The Paleontological Museum of Tomsk State University has received a remarkable exhibit consisting of a partial skeleton of an elasmotherium.

Previously, only isolated bones of this ancient animal had been found in Western Siberia and Kazakhstan.

Elasmotherium (Elasmotherium sibiricum) was an extinct species of ancient rhinoceros that lived across Eurasia. These animals were very large and had extremely massive bodies.

Because of the large horn on their forehead, they are often referred to as “Siberian unicorns.”

It is believed that they used their horn for defense and displays of strength.
