Turkmen schoolchildren ranked among the best at the World Mental Calculation Championship

The World Mental Calculation Championship for children and teenagers was held in Bielefeld, Germany, from September 5 to 7.

More than 100 top competitors from 14 countries, including China, Singapore, Germany, Japan, and France, took part in the competition. Over the course of two hours, participants competed in complex mathematical disciplines using mental calculation only.

Twelve schoolchildren from Turkmenistan qualified for the competition following the selection stage, with several of them scoring more than 2,000 points.

Mekan Nurgeldiyev, a graduate of the «Kämil Bilim» educational center in Turkmenabat and a 7th-grade student of Secondary School No. 41, scored 2,477 points in the Junior-1 category and took 3rd place at the world championship.

In addition, Liwanur Berdiyeva, Turkmenistan’s first national record holder in mental arithmetic, ranked among the top eight highest-scoring participants in the Senior category.
