Turkmenistan Voices the Position of the Group of Friends of Neutrality

A high-level forum dedicated to implementing the Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace, entitled “Women’s Leadership in Advancing a Culture of Peace,” was held at UN Headquarters in New York.

At the forum’s plenary session, Turkmenistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Wepa Hajiýew, spoke on behalf of the Group of Friends of Neutrality for Peace, Security and Sustainable Development, as well as in a national capacity.

The statement highlighted the close relationship between a culture of peace and the policy of neutrality. These principles are reflected in UN General Assembly Resolution 80/294 and Resolution 80/262, initiated by Turkmenistan, entitled “The Role and Importance of the Policy of Neutrality in Maintaining and Strengthening International Peace, Security and Sustainable Development.”

Particular attention was given to expanding women’s participation in preventive diplomacy, peace negotiations and early warning mechanisms, as well as strengthening support for women mediators, women contributing to peacebuilding and women-led organizations.
