Turkmenistan’s Teams Perform Successfully at World Chess Olympiad in Samarkand

Turkmenistan’s men’s and women’s national teams are performing successfully at the World Chess Olympiad being held in Samarkand.

Both teams are currently 30–40 places above their initial rankings and are positioned in the third group of ten. After six rounds, Turkmenistan’s men’s team ranks 25th among 206 teams, while the women’s team is 26th among 190 teams.

At the start of the tournament, the men’s team was ranked only 65th, while the women’s team was 55th. Both teams have scored 9 points out of a possible 12.

In the two rounds before the rest day, neither team lost to opponents who had been ranked 27–46 places higher in the initial standings.

The closing ceremony of the Olympiad will be held on September 27.
