Turkmenistan and World Wide Fund for Nature Sign Memorandum of Understanding

A virtual ceremony was held to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on environmental protection between the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

The document was signed by Turkmenistan’s Minister of Environmental Protection Ovezgeldi Goshjanov and WWF Regional Director for Eastern and Central Asia and the Pacific Jean-Paul Paddack.

The Memorandum is aimed at further strengthening long-term cooperation in biodiversity conservation, the protection of natural ecosystems and rare species, and increasing resilience to the effects of climate change.

The document provides for the development of a joint project and action plan for 2026–2030.

The main priorities include wildlife conservation, improving the system of specially protected natural areas, monitoring biodiversity, preserving and restoring populations of the Persian leopard, kulan, Bukhara deer, goitered gazelle and Amu Darya shovelnose sturgeon, as well as protecting rare species of birds and plants.
