World’s Only BMW M5 with a W10 Engine to Be Auctioned

A rare experimental BMW M5 E39 sedan equipped with a W10 engine will be offered for sale in October by Broad Arrow Auctions.

The unique car is expected to fetch between €250,000 and €350,000.

The vehicle was created in 1999 at the personal initiative of then-Volkswagen Group chief Ferdinand Piëch. He instructed engineers to develop a ten-cylinder engine for a future sports sedan.

To test the new engine, the production BMW M5 of that era was selected. Its standard V8 engine was removed and replaced with a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter W10.
