Archaeologists Discover the Site Where Paris Was Founded

French archaeologists have made a remarkable discovery on Île de la Cité, near Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.

Beneath the Hôtel-Dieu hospital, at a depth of about four meters, they uncovered a 20-meter section of an ancient wall built from stone and wood.

Researchers stated that this area was the historical center of Paris and that the city was founded at this very location.

The discovery is considered the first material evidence of the existence of the pre-Roman settlement of Lutetia, which was inhabited by the Parisii tribe, whose name later gave rise to the name Paris.
