Address by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov at the informal consultative meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asian countries and the Republic of Azerbaijan

As is known, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov paid a working visit to the Kyrgyz Republic to participate in an informal consultative meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asian countries and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Speaking at the consultative meeting, the President of Turkmenistan put forward important proposals aimed at strengthening interstate relations and promoting peace among peoples.

Dear Sadyr Nurgozhoevich!

Distinguished Heads of State!

First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, esteemed Sadyr Nurgozhoevich Japarov, for the hospitality extended to us and for the excellent organisation of our meeting. Taking this opportunity, I convey to you the warm greetings of Hero-Arkadag and his wishes for productive work. I congratulate the Kyrgyz side on the opening of new and remarkable facilities here, on the shore of Issyk-Kul. I am confident that this modern infrastructure will not only enhance the lake’s coastline but will also provide a powerful impetus for the development of the tourism potential of our entire region.

I am pleased to welcome the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, esteemed Ilham Aliyev, to this meeting. As is known, last year, at the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of Central Asian States held in Tashkent, a unanimous decision was adopted on the full participation of the Republic of Azerbaijan in our format. Dear Ilham Aliyev, allow me once again to congratulate you and, through you, the people of Azerbaijan on this event! I am firmly convinced that this new six-party mechanism of interstate cooperation will help bring our peoples and countries even closer, strengthen fraternal relations and provide additional impetus to cooperation through the use of our shared potential.

Distinguished Heads of State!

As you know, a Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asian countries and the Republic of Azerbaijan is scheduled to be held on October 8, 2026, in Turkmenistan, in the “Avaza” National Tourist Zone. Our country is approaching this important event with great responsibility and is carrying out all the necessary work to ensure that the summit is productive and organised at a high level. In this regard, we have sent the participating states a draft agenda for the meeting. The agenda includes five principal areas:

— an exchange of views on important issues of regional and international peace, stability and security;

— the further strengthening of political and diplomatic cooperation between the Central Asian countries and the Republic of Azerbaijan;

— the deepening of trade and economic relations, the expansion of cooperation in the energy sector and the development of sustainable transport and logistics corridors;

— joint measures to protect the environment and adapt to climate change, ensure the rational use of the water resources of the Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers, and coordinate efforts to restore the Aral Sea;

— the development of cultural, scientific and educational ties and the expansion of student and youth exchanges.

We proceed from the understanding that these proposed issues are of great importance to our countries. I would also like to emphasise that several international forums and cultural events are planned to be organised in Avaza during the preparation period and on the days of the summit.

I am confident that our states will continue, as before, to approach the organisation and holding of such international meetings with responsibility. In conclusion, I would once again like to express my gratitude to all the Heads of State for their interest in cooperation.
