The President of Turkmenistan received the OSCE Chairperson

On August 9, in the “Avaza” National Tourist Zone, the President of Turkmenistan received Ignazio Cassis, Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, Vice-President of the Swiss Confederation and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

The guest expressed his sincere gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan for the hospitality extended to him and noted the OSCE’s strong interest in strengthening productive relations with Turkmenistan, which pursues a policy aimed at ensuring peace and stability throughout the world. He also highly praised the country’s peaceful initiatives to expand international cooperation.

The President of Turkmenistan expressed gratitude for the kind words and noted that the country regards this visit as an important stage in developing relations between Turkmenistan and the OSCE, as well as with the Swiss Confederation.

As noted during the meeting, Turkmenistan advocates intensifying cooperation in the international arena to ensure peace and sustainable development in the region and throughout the world. Turkmenistan attaches particular importance to coordinating efforts within the framework of the OSCE.

The Head of State noted the productive nature of the current relations between Turkmenistan and the OSCE and stated that work is being carried out consistently on the basis of the annual cooperation programme jointly prepared by the Government of Turkmenistan and the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov also emphasised that Turkmenistan attaches great importance at the state level to ensuring human rights and democratic principles. He stated that the country considers it appropriate to continue cooperation within the framework of the OSCE in order to pursue further work in this area and study international experience.

“We have favourable conditions for developing cooperation in such areas as ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of our energy resources to world markets, creating conditions for sustainable economic growth, making full use of our transport potential, protecting the environment and using water resources rationally,” the Head of State said. He also confirmed Turkmenistan’s readiness to continue expanding cooperation with the OSCE to ensure peace and development throughout the world.

At the end of the meeting, the President of Turkmenistan and the guest expressed confidence in the further development of bilateral cooperation and exchanged their best wishes.
