Cristiano Ronaldo Punished for Leaving the Portugal National Team

The Portuguese Football Federation has taken disciplinary action against national team forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 41-year-old footballer was fined €255 for leaving the training base without authorization.

The issue arose at the end of September following a press conference held by head coach Jorge Jesus. After the coach did not guarantee Ronaldo a place in the starting lineup, the experienced forward left the team’s camp.

As a result, he remained on the bench for the Nations League match against Norway, which ended 2–1.

Commenting on the incident on social media, Ronaldo said that previous agreements with coach Jesus had not been honored.

However, the Federation’s disciplinary council regarded the unauthorized departure as a one-time and deliberate violation of the rules.

As the suspension period is counted from September 30, Ronaldo may return to the national team for its next match on November 14.
