11-Year-Old British Girl Becomes Youngest Female Grandmaster in History

Eleven-year-old British chess player Bodhana Sivanandan has become the youngest female grandmaster in history.

Sivanandan’s most recent tournament was the Chess Olympiad held in Samarkand. Competing for the England national team, she scored 8 points in 11 games.

Sivanandan began teaching herself chess in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this, she started competing in international tournaments as early as 2022.
