Bill Gates Says Billions of People Could Be at Risk Because of Artificial Intelligence

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates said in an interview with NBC News that the development of artificial intelligence is creating global risks for humanity.

In his view, technology companies are not capable of overseeing their activities through self-regulation alone, meaning that government authorities should also be involved.

Other industry leaders have also warned about the potential risks posed by the technology.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei had previously called for slowing the development of artificial intelligence because of risks associated with autonomous agents that can act independently without direct human instructions.

He warned that if the current pace of development continues, such systems could be capable within 6–12 months of using botnets and causing hundreds of billions of dollars in damage.
