Turkmen scientists patented an innovative environmental development

have developed and patented two new solutions for the oil and gas industry. They include a biological method for cleaning oil-contaminated soils and a construction material made from gas purification waste.

The first solution is a method for the deep purification and restoration of soils contaminated with petroleum products. It is based on isolating and cultivating special strains of local hydrocarbon-degrading microorganisms capable of breaking down heavy hydrocarbons under conditions of summer heat and soil salinity.

The second solution is a patented formulation of organomineral sulfur-polymer concrete. The material was developed using excess technical sulfur left as waste during natural gas purification at oil and gas fields.

Sulfur-polymer concrete can be used in hydraulic engineering, including the construction of irrigation canals, saline water drainage systems and port facilities. In such environments, conventional cement concrete deteriorates rapidly under the effects of salts.

The use of this material can not only reduce the cost of capital construction but also help address the environmental challenge of recycling sulfur waste.
